Tire speed ratings
my z28 has on 96V rated tires on the back, and 96T on the frontright now, which i believe are for up to 149mph. now I've heard people say that if my camaro didn't come with Y or Z rated tires it has a speed and rev limitor of 108mph. is this true?
1994 Z28 came stock with V or Z rated tires and had no speed limiter. Now the mismatched set you have now are 96T=1585 max load/118mph max speed (fronts) & 96V=1585 max load/149 mph max(rears). So I would NOT be drivingthat car over 100mph for too long with those front tires.[sm=drlove.gif] Next time buy the correct and matched tires.[sm=chairshot.gif] Now certain models of Camaro/Firebirds did come stock with non-speed rated tires and they did have a speed limiter.[sm=gears.gif]
The car came with these tires, and i have not changed them yet so it wasnt my idea to put mismatched ttires.but im planning on buying new Z-rated tires in the next month or so
ORIGINAL: 94 z28

*sigh* If the car was not ordered from the factory with Z rated tires it would have been equipt with an S rated tired(speed rated at 112 mph), if this was the case, the car would have a speed limitor set at 108 mph and have a 115 mph speedo. If it was ordered with Z rated, it will have a 150 mph speedo and will not be governed at all. Those tires cannot be the stock tires, GM would never mismatch tires on a vehicle from the factory.
