Default temp gauge not working

I have a 94 camaro 3.4l rs. The car run good when cold but when it gets up to good temperatures, the car looses power and hesitates on heavy acceleration. Another problem is the temp gauge not working. I can tell the temp sensor is working as the fan turn on and off only after the car warms up. But the gauge shows below 160° and does not move. Any sugestions.

Wrong sensor. The one for the gauge is on the left cylinder head near the front. It has only one wire.

Ha, the sensor was umplugged. Now it works. Question, does that sensor determine how much fuel the car needs to run.

Ok, so what could cause the loss of power and hesitation at operating temperatures?

test the fuel pressure at operating temp. pump may be heating up and failing once it is. other than that i have seen fouled 02 sensors mess things up without throwing a code. might be worth pulling one and having a look to see if there all black. have you had it scanned for trouble codes to make sure there arent any stored?
