swapping v6 to v8
I have a 96 camaro with a 3.8 but it the compression on one cylinder is only 70 percent...my question is what cheaper to do replace the whole engine with a tranny(planning on converting to a v8) or can i bolt a v8 to my existing tranny? either way I want a v8 in my car...

Couple threads for you to read:

It's not a simple process. Read through some stuff and see if it doesn't change your mind.

If you want a V8, sell your V6 car and buy a car with a V8. 4th-gen Camaros were built much more engine specific than earlier ones, and you'll spend far, far more on the swap than you would just buying a V8. And your car won't be worth any more when you're done.

It really is not worth the work to convert. Your better off buying a car with a V8 that has some engine damage and replacing that motor. Much less work and the car itself will be worth a LOT more when its done. Cars that are converted to V8 never sell.
You have a nice V6 platform. There are several options for a 3800 upgrades. 240-250 HP at the fly wheel is not hard to do. Also low miles doner engines are everywhere.
A 08 Series III 3800 with a set of header some 1.6 rockers arms some work on the intake to match everything up and a little ports and your looking at almost 20% increase in HP and still good mileage.

lol. We have been calling a transmission a "tranny", long before it referred to that other "thing".

Well check out Socom's thread and see if that is something you would be into. Your going to need a doner car. Problem, Nice low miles parts cars are not cheap. The LT1's are dropping but there are still people putting these LT1 in Trucks and hot rods so there is a pretty good demand for wrecked cars with lower miles on them.
