Default Swapping a LTI Engine into a V6

I found an LTI with Transmission (Pulled out of a 95 Corvette [I believe]) and was wondering if it would be worth the money saved, to swap that engine and transmission into my V6 1994 Camaro.

The average cost of a Z28 around here is about $8-9,000 for a decent one, I am only getting around $6,000 from an insurance claim. The transmission and engine cost around $2,500. Would it be worth it?

Thanks for the Help.

I'm selling my LT1 TA for $6K...but you can find a stock TLC LT1 car for 3-5K, so no, not worth it

It depends on the condition of the LT1 and tranny, and the condition of your tranny and engine. If your engine and tranny are on its way out, and you were going to replace it anyway, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade. So in my opinion if you need it to be replaced go ahead, but if you are doing it for performance, then I would buy a V8F-body or Y-body.

If you dont mind the work why not!?
And if you sell your V6 you can get some money back...

if you think your tranny needs a change, then go for it, if not then it is pretty pricey.

I'd just buy a V8 rather than do the conversion, while the engine and transmission are two key points, there are going to be a lot of small nick knac things that will also need to be changed. It's worth it if you have the time and money, and love working on cars, but for the average person, you'd just be better off getting a Camaro that already has a V8.

I agree with Jeremy. I was looking at a 75 Camaro LT (with a 305) and i was going to switch it out for a 350 or 357 but i figured it would be a huge hassle even tho it would be easier since it was a carbbed engine and didnt have all the emissions and computer crap we have in our cars. Its a matter of time, money and alot of know how.

i ran into this problem when my engine blew the head gasket last summer, and it messed up the compression in 2 of the pistons. i ended up getting a junkyard motor with 36,000 miles on it and just swapping it. i was very tempted to drop an LS1 in it, but at the time, it was kinda more than i wanted to spend. my uncle is a mechanic and so my brother and i helped him drop the 3.8 in, but i really don't know. i'm sure it can be done, especially if you have the Y87 version of the v6, but i'd really like to know someone who's done it

There are plenty of wrecked cars out there with the lt1 and also the ls1. If you can get your hands on one of those, I would go that way so you have all of the front end components and can swap out your rear end at the same time.
