The fourth gen camaro is definitely my fave. I want to know what is better/easier to mod for performance. 1997 SS or 2002 SS. Also would it be cheaper/easier to take a third gem and restore and mod it? Please help and thanks guys

The 02 will be easier. LS1 makes more power/tq stock, responds great to simple bolt ons and aftermarket is cheap. Making power out of a third gen won't be as cost effective, but can be still be done pretty easy with teh 350 TPI. Still, the LS1 remains the best bang for buck in terms of performance

4th and 3rd gens are night and day with respect to handling, the 4th gen is far superior. The 3rd gens are easier to work on under the hood but you are talking 1st gen small block vs 3rd gen with the LS

night and day difference

Just saying, the LT1 is cheaper... lol

How about this, the 1998-2002 LS1 cars are all generically similar... the likelihood of you picking up a anniversary edition is slim, but not impossible. If you want the special editions be ready to pay for them... if you just want the performance, go with a 98-99 cheaper, while still offering the same performance. and they still have the new look, and the ls1...
