Starting Problem
Hey guys,
My 1999 Camaro v6 3.8L has a bit of a problem starting, when I crank it up it just cranks doesn't start, sometimes i have to stop cranking and then it starts after i let go of the key, sometimes i have to stop doing everything and crank it for the 2nd time and then it starts right away and when i turn it off and it wasn't more then 15 minutes while it was standing it starts right up. What might be causing this issue? From my experience I think its the fuel pressure regulator what do you guys think it is?
Thanks!,
Sebastian

pull the vac line off the fpr and see if theres gas in there if so thats it also do you have a pressure gauge im not 100% sure but if you hook up the gauge it should read somewhere in the 20s and if you pull off the vac line it should jump up to 46 if not its the fpr like i said im not 100% sure but i know craby knows and im sure hell see this and post

fuel pressure should be 41 to 47 with key on and engine not running. 34-38 is normal at idle with the fpr hooked up, should go up to 41 to 47 at throttle up, running with the fpr unhooked it should be in the 41 to 47 range. has ses light been coming on?

I had a similar starting problem to that right after my rebuild. It cranked but wouldn't start. Had to turn it off and try again. Sometimes after sitting for a few minutes it would or wouldn't start right away. It ended up being a combination of a bad battery (even though it tested good) and a bad starter. I still get a goofy start every once and awhile, but it's from the cam and lack of a tune.

I got a 1999 so I want to know if the fuel pressure regulator is going to be in the same general area on my engine? Thats a nice camaro decal BTW is that painted on or is it vinell?

The FPR on your car would be back by the firewall on the fuel rail on the right side of the intake. The vac line is tiny and runs around the back of the intake. When you pull it off with the engine running, no fuel should come out and it will make a whistling sound if it's alright.
By my guess. Sounds like your fuel pump is nearing its end of days.
If you have a fuel pressure gauge, hook it up to the schrader valve on the fuel rail on the left side of the intake. When you turn the key, your fuel PSI should shoot up to over 40 PSI. At idle it should run very very low. Around 9-10 psi and if you pull the vac line it should shoot up into the 30s. Post back and let us know how it goes.
