or, you could go back in time to the exact moment when you were going to push the button and then stop yourself from pushing the button and in doing so making a time paradox and thus stopping all of existance in its tracks!!!!

well, another theory is that you dont actually time travel, but you go into parallel dimensions at a different time of that dimensions history. anything you alter there will have no effects on your own dimension once you return home. thats the way it was in dragon ball Z
