Default Should I take the leap to a Z28?

Before I ask I shall give you guys a little history:

Last spring my father and I decided to look for a car for me. It took a while but we finally settled on a an old beaten up Camaro RS with a hole in the side of it. At the beginning of the summer we put it up and started working on it.

The good(Most we fixed ourselves, all less then 2 years old):
Struts
Shocks
Re-did the interior
Various smaller parts (Refurbished the A-arms, balljoints etc.)
Oil-pan
Drivers side door and fender
Glass-pack(changed it to a converter)
Clutch(a little more recently)
Brakes/Rotors
We tuned it up (Spark plugs, wires, serpentine belt)
Alternator
Exhaust
Steering column
Engine in good condition

The Bad:
Cracked windshield(HUGE crack)
Broken Fan
Passenger Side door has been keyed pretty bad

We did that all over the summer, yet as I drove it I noticed something. It was not the rocket I thought it would be, it was just not that fast. I think the V6 is a little small for me. I have heard swapping the engine is a pain, and I don't think I want to do it.

So I was wondering if i should try and pick up a Z28 in the spring? I would have about 2 or 3 grand available. And I saw some Z28's for around that price that weren't in great shape. However I would be willing to fix it up.

The question(s) I have are:
Would it be worth it to pick up and fix up a 93-02 Z28?
Should I try and sell my old one or use it for parts?
How much do you think i could get for my old one?
What parts could be transfered if i were to strip it?
The engine I have now is in good condition, would I find that on a Z28(Dad says most are beat up)?

Thanks!

Sell it and buy a Z,I bought this car ('93 Z28) for $2000 needing a little TLC.
She needed a radiator and heater core, tires and a trans seal,a battery and a few other minor things but overall was a great running and looking car that I was able to drive home.
The AC is cold and the cruise control works, one switch replacement and the electric windows all work now,in fact everything on the car works now.

What is the years of the RS and how many miles are on it?

Have you checked on insurance yet? Seems it varies depending on where you live. Some guys say their insurance is almost the same V6 to V8 and I have seen that non-married under 25 with a Z28 would have to be assigned insurance, meaning you are treated the same as someone with a DUI.

Its a 1993 RS 5-Speed, with 185,000 miles on it. How much does a Z-28 usually (6-speed) go for? Should i use my old one for parts or am I going to need the money from it?

What makes you think you have a 1993 RS? Its just a base Camaro. GM did not build a RS in the forth gen until 1996.
You could get around $1000 for around me. Might be worth putting the windsheild in.
The cheapest I ever saw was 95 with 135K that needed a clutch, he wanted $2500. If I was not 200 miles from home on vaction I would have bought it. I saw one around me for $4500 that says it just need some cosmedics work. But as a general rule they do not got cheap. The trannies alone are bring $1500

I was told by a friend who worked at GM that I "might as well" call it an RS. What is the difference?

He also said that I could probably sell it for around 3000, is this true? Or is it wishful thinking? I just fixed the fan and we payed 1300 for it..

Again you should research it based on where you live the 1300 you paid is about right. 3K for a base model with high miles and a cracked window and it needs paint work.... Good luck with that. For my area Kelly blue book list a 93 base model in fair condition with 185K at $1575. Even in excellent condition its at $2350

I have no idea what your friend was talking about. The only people that would know your car was not a RS are people that know nothing about Camaros.

RS is an apearance package so to make a RS clone you pretty much have to buy everything that comes with the RS package.
Here is what an RS looks like. Note the big RS on the side of the car and the ground effects and extra wing on the back,,, That is the RS package.

Thanks for clearing that up gorn, did the RS come with a different engine?

I found out I can pick up a new windshield, and I was talking to the previous owner. He said that the engine had been rebuilt at 150,000, which means the rebuilt only has about 35,000 miles on it. Would that help pricing? Because most base Camaros around here go for about 2500 in good condition and 1000 in bad.

RS has always been appearance package, mean its just about looks. There was a couple of years in the 4th gen that had a SLP RS package that had their intake and exhaust. I think it was only listed at a 5 HP increase. A nice combination Is the RS Y-87. The Y-87 is most of the suspension performance parts off the SS on a V6.

Since there are no pre 1996 RS's you can say that all RS had 200 HP 3.8 but so did all V6 Camaros build after 1995.

I guess I found what my question is:

How much should I expect to pay for a running Z28(4th gen) without major body damage or major problems running? This could include buying cheap and fixing.
