Default Should I have not done that?

I'm sure that some of you have seen that I'm replacing my K-member and I finally started working on it a few days ago!

While I was taking things apart I decided to disconnect the hose from the caliper and the sensor wire as well so that I could take off the caliper, rotor, and steering knuckle as a whole. But when I went and looked in my repair book it said... DON'T DO THAT. So I said oops...

I figured that I would just be able to bleed the system when I was all done... right? OR... is it a bad thing that I disconnected that hose? In the book it said "do not disconnect unless you plan to overhaul the caliper"

Was disconnecting the brake line that goes to the caliper a bad move? If it was how do i fix that? (my magic repair book wont tell me) Thanks

i dont think its a big deal. u will have to bleed it. bleed slow and easy so not to set off the abs warning. not sure why it says not to unhook it but i think its something to do the abs. i guess u could replace the calipers. lol.

It also says don't do some of the brake repairs if you have traction control. Do some or all of the v6's have traction control? I don't think mine does but I could be COMPLETELY wrong haha

what yr car are we talkin about? there are certain things best left to a shop with the spendy diagnostic tools needed. like abs and traction control brain box diagnosis.

well i know the traction control on the my z28 consists of basically the 'hall senors' small magnetic probs that read those circulator rings, so i wouldnt worry about traction sensors as long as you have undone the battry prior to unplugging them. My grandad is also a mechnic and says the only brake things hard to do is replacing the steel hoses that go int the abs unit as it is a nightmare to bleed out. but the ones on the caliper should be fine

My book says as long as the ABS light is not on, it is fine but if your ABS light is energized, then you cannot bleed the system properly. I disconnected mine when I replaced a motor and then bleed the system and we have had no problems with the brakes or abs. According to the book, one must have a computerized diagnostic tool to properly bleed the braking system.

Bleeding the brakes is easy if you don't have ABS or traction control, but if you DO have those things then you should take it to a shop to bleed it. If there's any air in the system, it has a tendency to find its way into those components, and you do need special diagnostic tools to bleed those components the right way.
