Has anyone installed one of those "shift improvement modules" sold by SLP? If so, how well did it work - notice any improvement in shift firmness, or is buying and installing this just a waste of time?

You mean like a shift kit? Their not to expensive and not a bad investment if you are going to get a good one and get it properly installed (install can be a pain.) Remember, the l460e is actually a really good auto transmission (especially compared to mustangs) and shifts well when you need it to. You'll notice it slam into gears harder, but make sure you don't go with a cheap one thats going to make your trans really vulnerable to internal wear. Most people don't waste their time installing a small stall, so you might as well aim pretty big if you do go through with this.

You really want to get that auto running though, go ahead and throw a torque convertor in their as well.

 

no, i'm familiar with the B&M kit where you drop the pan and the valve body, this is some type of electrical box you splice into your wiring- don't know if it does something to increase pressure within the tranny-here is the link to the page that it's listed on -http://www.slponline.com/browse_list.asp

What year is your car? I used to have one, and you could tell it shifted harder. Now I have tuned my computer to do the same thing as that.

 

ok - well, sorry the link didnt go where I thought it would - if you go to "slp online" and click on 93-97 F body - then go to section "PCM and Electronic" you will see it at the bottom of the page.

 

I have a '95 Z.

 

If you everplan to get the PCM tuned, you can have them do that as well, and save your money w/that module. Unless you like the idea of flipping back to stock just like that. Not sure if you are at the point of needing or wanting the PCM tuned though.

 

I used to have a 96 Z, and had a power programmer for it. Shift firmness was one of the features, and it changed it by altering the PCM. Looks like the SLP module does pretty much the same thing, just with an in-line module to alter the signal. As far as the results, yes it is noticeable and worthwhile. The nice thing, is you can put it back to "normal" when you go to sell the car. (that way the buyer won't know you were beating on the car)
