Default Replacing Head Gasket 95 LT1

I discovered the issue with my cooling fans coming on and the service engine light is due to leaking head gaskets. I have a mechanic lined up to change them and he is confident that it will be successful. Can anyone share their experience with this type of thing? I have my 95 LT1 for a little over a year, just over 100k and I would really like to keep it. Back in the day blown head gaskets was like saying the engine was done. I have not driven it while it was acting up and running poorly, mechanic says the engine looks good.
Just looking for tips and pointers, advice on success rate of changing these and continuing with a solid engine with regular maintenance.

Thanks!

as long as the car didn't overheat to the point of causing warped heads, cracked block or other damage, a well done head gasket job should be fine, prep is super important, things need to be measured to be lined up/flat surface, cleaned like crazy, good gaskets, I've had good experience w/Fel Pro and GM products, but others can chime in, how much do you trust the competency of your mechanic? after head gasket job is completed, you must learn to faithfully/accurately do your own preventive maintenance repairs, especially how to properly bleed cooling system, Your mechanic should be sure to check all hoses are good, no leaks in systems/ the reservoir tube under battery tray is good, rad cap is good.,fush cooling system change oil/new thermo. I can't say anything about the future as I don't know your car's history, but I always assume worst and work from that point. I would get a guarantee of some sort as I hear many places charge around 2500 for doing the head gaskets and you can pick up LT1s on Clist for a lot less....Head gaskets require patience, adherence to procedures/torquing, no cutting corners, this is off the top of my head... best wishes

The car never overheated, my cooling fans would kick in and the car barely made it to normal operating temps. And this mechanic is very capable. Of course there are variables that cannot be predicted but it sounds like it will be ok.
Thanks for the input!
