Exclamation Replacement Rear End to a Posi

Currently I have an Open rear end 3.23. I have a chance to pickup a Posi rear end with Disc brakes with a 2.73 for $150.

Question is it the 2.73 going to kill my performance feel? I have the 3.8 v6.

Should I continue the search for a better posi rear end ratio or pick up this one?

CastleRockCamaro

GU2 = 2.73
GU4 = 3.08
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42

well its going to a higher gear so you will have a little better gas mileage on the freeway but it will hurt your launch a little but not much since its not even going a whole gear..might only drop your 1/4 by like .1s, if that even

i would say u will not be that happy with it. if u know a good mechanic u could change the gears from one to the other. warning this is not for the inexperianced.

Strange thing is, I am finding more 2.73 ratios with Posi than anything else.

I was thinking about waiting until GORN goes through the process first!

Since I can relate to most of what he has done on his Project 96 Thread.

i am not sure, if the pinion bolt pattern is the same between axles. if it is, it wouldn't be to hard to swap the gears from one carrier to the other. don't drop your gears though, dropping from 3.23 to 2.73 will be a 16% rearend torque drop. If you are running a sixer up front, i think you will notice that, especially off the launch. the bonus from extra mileage will probably be lost in the loss of off the line acceleration. it is surprising how much difference a few extra teeth can make.
