You would originally have had either an 85 or 105 amp, depending on what GM put on your car based on the accessories it has. The majority of replacement alternators for your car are the 105 amp version. Neither one would have been killed by the battery unless the battery was defective and had a shorted out cell. Even that would be a maybe.

It's an 85. I don't have anything extra on the car either and I rarely drive at night so I use a limited amount of battery. The battery in it is Everstart MAXX 75S and is 550 CCA. They don't have this battery on the website. Hmm.
If you recall my post months ago about the volts? Well he said volts didn't mean anything to him anyway but mine always stayed under 12v. It was like 11.78. Well it's 12.11 right now so that's different for me. He's been doing this for years. He is pushing 70 and said this has happened to him 4 times in his lifetime and that it's been years since he saw that part go bad. I may just keep an eye out on it for a while. If I hadn't noticed the gauge, I'd probably been stuck somewhere lol
