I have a 3.4L V6 that needs a new engine. Apparently my fuel pump went bad and wasn't giving enough gas to the engine. As a result the computer was constantly telling the pump to pump gas because it wasn't getting enough. This apparently made it give to much gas and the gas leaked into my engine and got into the oil. This was all after my fuel pump stopped they mechanic put in a new fuel pump but now the engine is shot. What can I do? Is it better to rebuild or is there any new engines i can have put in. If I could get some feed back that woul be great.

Who told you that story? The only thing the computer does with the pump is to turn it on when the engine is turned on, and to turn it off when the engine is turned off. How do you know the engine is shot? I think you should see another mechanic.

 

That is what my dad said the mechanic told him. All in all gas got in my engine and oil and started eating away at the engine companents. There is a clear difference in running as well. The car runs absolutely terrible. Also i was getting terrible gas millage and the mechanic said that it was because the sensor or computer or whatever was saying that their wasnt enough gas. So it was always pumping in more. I did have a bad fuel pump and now that the car is getting a full compliment of gas it is even more noticeable how bad the engine runs. I am not really a car person. I just no my camaro sounds terrible and they said i need a new engine. I was wondering what my options were

 

If the engine is really messed up, you could get a good used one from a junk yard, some good yards install and guarantee them, buy a rebuilt one, or rebuild the one you have. You should first look the oil pressure and do a compression check. If the numbers are good try giving it a tune up before giving up on it.

 

I know it is getting really bad compression but I found a place who will get a rebuilt engine and put in all the stuff it needs for around 2800 does that sounds resonable?

 

not bad. if you really look around, you can find the engine for less than 1500 and get a 200 dollar core. now if you can't put it in yourself then find out who will for the best price.

 

You really REALLY need to see another mechanic before you do anything. If that story were any longer I need my waders to get through all the bs. Got to maybe one or two more mechanics, have em write up a quote of everything they say is wrong, and then post that.
