Random chugging?!?!?!

Random chugging?!?!?!
Alright, so I started up the camaro this morning to heat up, even though it wasn't that cold. When I went back out to head to school, it was idling at a very low rpm. Then, when I put it in drive, it started chugging very violently. I would have the brakes pressed to the floor, and it would still lurch forward a little bit on each chug (maybe a little bit of sarcasm/embellishing here...).
Because this is the first time it's happened, and I have driven it on colder days and nights, I don't think it is a cold thing.
Info:
Low rpm atidle
Chugging in Drive
If I put it in neutral when I come to a stop (So I don't lurch into an intersection), The rpms shoot up to about 1700, then drop back into normal range (It always does this, but generally it goes from about 700 to 1000).
P.S. '93 z28 - Stock
P.P.S. I just remembered, when I got to school and put it in park, I would hear a slight ping, or clunk, or small tapping noise coming from the rear end. Please tell me this probably isn't my rear end about to take a dump. lol.
Any help is always greatly appreciated.
