Default Ram air

Ok this may be a stupid question here but I'm wondering how the ram air setup works on the ss. Old school ram air (60's-70's) is easy, a short scoop that seals around the air filter housing via rubber gasket so the filter element is actually in the scoop. Looking at the hoods on the Camaro though it seems that the hood screens are set back quite a ways but the intake is about as far foward as you can get in the engine compartment. Is it a true sealed system? From the outside it looks like the air would have to travel back a ways, then foward to the intake. I know exactly sh*t about the Camaro setup though. I wish I could find an ss aroundmy areato look at. Anyone here have pics of the underside of hood setup & of the intake setup itself or diagram on this? Or a link if already here but I couldn't find on search. My car currently has the stock intake & the hood is for show but I would like to set it up as functional. Would not take much fabricating but I need to know how it works on TB cars to even get started. Thanks for any info/help.

It's not worth it to fabricate, just buy a Fast Toys Ram Air and put that in. The SS hood does nothing for performance, it's all looks.

so the "ram air" is basically like a cold air intake then, not a forced air like the old school? I just think my hood looks funny with the scoops being solid. I could dremel out the front of the scoops in about 5 min & also the underside of my hood has 2 cutouts that the scoops are on. These are also hollow so I could dremel then as well. Just thinking that would help a little with heat disipation since cold air circ around engine exiting at back of hood. Plus it would look better. It just looks so fake as is (even though it is).

Bought car last week & those scoops were already on it.I happen to like them. I personally dont want the single scoop, everyone has that. But thanks for the helpful input chappie.

(btw look a little closer at my underhood pic & you'll see they aren't "stick on" )

Yea they are stick ons man sorry. I would not bother trying to do anything with those things, you'll end up hacking holes in the hood and getting rain water all over. Google the free ram air mod and do that, you will get a few hp out of it and it's free.

I live in Tucson, AZ where summer temps. easily break 100. I've read that this ram air setup is not good for hotter regions due to a hotter engine running temp. Is this true?
