I'm just wondering if there's some other issue other than the gaskets. Are you valve covers warped? or dented or anything? They aren't the most sturdy things.

If by "blue rubber", you mean the silicone rubber gaskets, you don't add silicone schmootz to them. That's the whole idea behind them, plus they're reusable. I presume your having a leak problem? Could be your valve covers are tweaked.

On 50% of cars that have repeat leaks on the valve cover it will come down to over tighening of the bolts. The other 50% is leakage due to a damaged/warped valve cover caused by,,, wait for it..... over tighening the bolts.
When done right you do not need to add anything to a rubber gasket to make it seal. I lost count of how many GM valve covers I have had to straighten 20 years ago. LOL

i silicone EVERYTHING just a thin coating (as for valve cover gaskets i silicone more to hold the gasket in place)
