Default questions about a 98 z28

so i found a 98 z28 and its got 100,000 miles in good shape and hes asking 6 grand. in really good shape and it looks like a steal. it has the same body kit that comes on 4th gen rs's. the side skirts and 3 piece spoiler. my question is can that be taken off easily or would it tear up the car? i dont like it and i would definintley take it off but i dont know how to. my other question is, can a steering wheel from a 99-02 be but on a 98? i think in 99 they changed the steering wheel and i like it better. any help would be appreciated

If it really is a Z28 it did not come from the factory with all that cladding. That stuff had to be added on later, and probably held in by screws, so it should come off fairly easily.

I think starting in 1998 you could order the "Sport Appearance Package" that included the body kit and the spoiler on any car (which is unfortunate in my opinion), so it could have been a factory installed deal. You could go look at the car and see if it seems well done and factory or if it's a home-brew sort of job. Either way, you'll be able to get it off, it just depends on whether you'll need a paint job or not after. It could be like the body side moldings on the C5 Corvettes where they were installed after the car had been painted. If that's the case all you need is some heavy fishing line and a hot sunny day to get the glue they're held on by warm. You can then drag the fishing line under the crap you don't want and pray that it comes off. Then you would need some sort of solvent that doesn't eat paint (they make it, I have some but I forget what it's called off the top of my head) and use that to get the rest of the glue off.

yeah if its glued on, im not worried about it. my truck had this plastic side molding on it and i had to take it off to have it repainted. it wasnt a problem. im just hoping it isnt some sort of thing thats screwed on and leaves holes in the body.

If it's screwed on all you'll have to worry about is the rear lip since everything else any holes would be out of sight. I can't confirm whether it's glued or screwed (if it's screwed you're screwed ), but a little bondo and some touch up paint can go a long way if they're small holes.

Keep looking, another one will come your way, and maybe it won't have the ground effects on it, don't get too excited about getting a new car, it will make you more likely to purchase something you'll be a little disappointed with down the road.

My advice: you already have something to drive, why not go for what you really really want? 1st Gens are just going to keep getting more expensive and more rare, LS1's are going to continue to get cheaper.

yeah thats exactly what im thinking. its just tough to pick a car thats not running over a car and that wont be for a few years over a car that i could drive home and would smoke my 3.8. dont get me wrong, i love my car, but im ready for some speed
