Talking Question about Struts!

I really really need new front struts for my 99 camaro. I went to Belltire today for a quick quote, and the want to charge me around $550 to change my front ones (parts+labor) but i think that`s an extreme price just for 2 freaking struts. so on my way home i stopped at autozone and I can get a pair ( Gabriel Ultra / Shock/Strut - Front) for under $99.

Anyone used them before? Are they any good?

I currently have a complete set of Gabriel Shocks on my 96. They are much better than the previous set. I changed the shocks myself, which took about 45-60min per side. Spring Compressor required. I had a makeshift spring compressor tool that took a bit of time to secure and compress. Checker Auto has a free loaner spring compressor tool.

Alot of people here on the forum go with the KYB shocks, you may want to look into that direction.

No complaints so far with the Gabriels.

the thing is that I don't have space or tools to change them. I called another BT place and they quoted me around $408 with labor and taxes for monroe struts or something like that with lifetime warranty. I went almost everywhere in my town and prices start from $124 per strut(labor only) compare to BT which is $40 labor. I think I will go with BT unless someone can point me in a better direction.

i guess it depends on what u want. the best will cost around 1000 for shocks and struts. good ones run in the 4 to 500 range. thats if u put them in. sam strano has some custom built brand names for a good price.

I just want some basic ones, until I have more money to get something better.

Then your Gabriels should be fine.

Yeah...I went to AZone today and spent $144 on all4 . Hope they will be good for a while. The guy from autozone told me they have lifetime warranty and if they go bad AZone will replace them for free. anyway, Thank you all 4 the quick replys.
