Default Question on 1997 Anniversary Stripes / Decals

Hey Guys,

I have 1997 Arctic white anniversary model with the orange hugger stripes. The stripes are pretty faded and I would love to replace them.

Has anyone ever removed these and replaced them themselves?

Are they hard to get off and how about putting new ones on?

Last idea - does anyone know anything I can do to restore the ones that are still on the car? I have thought about trying to repaint them or something. Every wax or compound I have used to try and freshen them up only seems to last a few days before they are back to looking faded again.

Any help?

My '97 30th Anniversary was repainted except the roof and hatch before I bought it. The stripes on the hood and front bumper were painted on, which I assume was done on the refinish. the roof and hatch are vinyl. I am assuming the vinyl is factory. They are well baked and faded by the Florida sun. If they are vinyl on your car you should be able to feel the edge if you run your fingernail across the edge. If they are vinyl, I would have a vinyl shop remove the old ones and replace. They do sell kits online which are about $250 depending on your bodystyle.

My hood has been painted but the top and spoiler are still the vinyil original decals. I have also noticed that the chevy engine orange matched the hugger orange quite well.

Has anyone ever tried painting the vinyl decals while they are still on the car to help them look better?

I put TurtleWax Ice on my vinyl ones and it brings a little life back into them. Doesn't last long. I'm gonna have a vinyl shop remove and replace the ones on the roof and hatch/spoiler.
