I don't get what you're saying "I couldn't get the key back outta the ignition without a seperate shutoff switch". Was your key always stuck in the ignition, so you needed to have a hidden starter button?
Three: I've done exactly the opposite before; hidden a switch that disables the starting mechanism. This way hides a switch that works the starting mechanism.
In response to number Two: When I got my civic(before I did the motor swap or anything) the key was stuck in the ignition yes. You could turn on the ignition and such but it would not go past the unlock point(you are supposed to be able to push the key in towards the column and it unlocks it) and release the key. So I tested a theory I had by just putting a cutoff switch on it. When the switch was in the on position the key would be stuck, but when I turned off the switch it would release the key instantly! So to drive the car the switch had to be on, and the key had to be in the ignition, but to get the key back out you had to turn off the switch. So I figured if i already had to do all of that why not go ahead and put a push button setup in it. So I took the Button itself out of a S2000 and got the two toggle switches from Auto Zone. Wired them up and got this!

yep, simple.
Just use a momentary contact button, not a switch.

I used 8 cage for an amp, cause that was what I had laying around.
It only triggers the solenoid so it wont pull much amperage.
