Default pulling the opti on my 94z28

just a couple quick questions on removing the opti, i drained my coolant and am going to pull of my fans, and water pump to make it easier to get to the opti. just wondering after i replace my opti if i should replace the water pump gaskets, even though its not leaking and the water pump is pretty new still?? also do i have to losen the idler pulley to help pull of the crank pulley??? just wanted any tips and suggestions before i move any further. Currently i have the coolant drained and the 3 16mm bolts loosened on the crank pulley. thanks

Always replace water pump gaskets whenever the pump is removed, as the old ones are sure to leak. Just a matter of a few Bux. Also a good idea to replace the shaft seals both both the opti and the water pump.

you should absolutely replace the gaskets on the water pump and i dont think you have to mess with the idler pulley. at least i didnt when i changed my opti.

Do not try to pull the crank pulley, just unbolt it from the hub. Rust may be holding it to the hub, so you may have to tap around it gently, a few times.

well i have the belt removed from the idler pulley and the crank pulley as of now, but the pulley seems to be stuck on the hub pretty well, i was planning on using a puller and putting the pullers claws on just the pulley and not the hub. Also, doesnt the new opti come with new shaft seals???

Just got the opti out today, wasnt too bad in my opinion. Just waiting on the new one to get here from summit racing. Also people say its annoying to line up the dowel to the opti spark, but looking at it i wouldnt think it is that bad. im i right or am i in for a big suprise when i go to put the new one on??
