Default project start

i am gonna start my 2 year project finally (ls swap) ive looked into and done plenty of research and believe i have the support network and the people with the knowhow on how to do it.

I want to know what a GOOD price for a 383 long block is (used) or a LS 350 complete?

Ultimately i want a 383 and the only thing i am having problems with is how do i wanna get there. Ill need a donor car eventually but i want the engine first so i dont have to worry about storing the parts.

Any ideas on the most cost effective way to get a 383 are welcome

You lost me here... Do you want to do a 383 or an LS? They are not the same engine. The LT1 can be made into a 383 by using a 400 crank but the LS1 cannot.

LT1 = 350
LS1 = 346

Both = 5.7L

you'll get the ls1 used complete cheaper than doing a 383. you can most likely get an entire ls1 drop out with pcm harness and trans for the same cost as goin 383.

im sorry i didnt clarify. i doing a Ls milled to 383. I wanna know should i just get the complete stock ls1 mill it then change rotating assembly ect. or buy a 383 LS long block then build up from there.
What i dont know is how much stock ls1 parts sell for and the price it cost to mill the block. i know rotating assemblies for a 383 are around $1,300 to $2,000 so that cost is definite for both

You do know that you are going to need a doner car for all the goodies that will be needed to swap the LS series engine into your car. You cant just throw an engine and harness into the car and expect everything to work. There is almost nothing that is the same between your car and an LS1 car. Make sure to check out the V6-V8 thread to see some more info. The first few pages are people saying dont do it but I have been involved in the swap and it is a major job.

Ive looked well into it. I've talked to people who have done the swap and people who are willing to help. As far as parts yes ill need a donor plus some elbow grease lol.

its a whole song and dance. if youre county dont got emissions or inspection your bettre off doing a custom build rather than a swap
