Replacing the Crank position sensor on an LT1 is an impossible task, mainly because the engine does not use one. Clocking signals to the PCM are provided by the Optispark distributor via the Low and High reference signals.

so if i get fail codes lo and hie res i should replace the opti spark?? even though my spark plugs are filled with soot saying the engine is running rich???

Just because the plugs are fouled it does not mean that the engine is running rich, There are many reasons for plug fouling beside an over rich mixture. Plugs can foul due weak spark, bad spark timing, improper heat range, improper reach, improper gap, etc....
Another cause of fouling could be that excessive fuel is being delivered, which could be due to excessive fuel pressure, bad injectors, bad sensors, especially the O2 sensors.
Being that the Opti is throwing codes and being that you recently replaced it, it would be fair to say that the Opti is still good and there may be a wiring problem. Check all wiring and connectors between the Opti and PCM, PCM to coil control module, and from coil module to coil. Also make sure all high tension wiring is OK, coil to Opti, and Opti to spark plugs.
