Default Power windows question?

A few weeks ago I noticed my passenger side window would roll down slow and sometimes quit half way and wouldn't go back up or down until after a while. It'll move an inch or so then quit again. Until yesterday now it wiping won't go down at all.

Driver side has been slower as usual and the "automatic down" button stopped as well. (i liked that feature)

Is this caused by bad motors? Why would both mess up at the same time? What other causes should I look for? What about the automatic down button? Do I have to get a different motor for that?

The window motors will go out on these cars at any moment, its a guarantee. There is a sticky somewhere in the 4th gen area that also has a guide in it.

The passenger side window tends to slow down first due to a wiring deficiency causing the motor to overheat and wear out before its time. There is a wiring fix called Autotrix, but it's too late for preventive medicine now, the motor is shot. Same for the drivers side, it's on it's way out.

You could try lubing the tracks and making sure the alignment is good. Check shoebox's site for info and instructions. Worth a shot before replacing the motors.

Hey,

I just did my passenger side motor this week.

Check out my thread here: Power Window Motor Swap

Super easy fix, and relatively cheap too.

Cheers,

mmmm, window motors. My favorite routine maintenance item. Seriously, it's an annual event for one side or the other

Annual event? Just how many sides does your car have?

I love my Gm cars so please forgive me for saying this....sad thing is, back then, GM wanted to think they built as good a car as the japs, but before my 97 Nissan altima succumbed to hurricane sandy, it was 15 years old with 255k miles on it. I had it 6 years and bought it with 100k miles. I put 155k miles on it for $1500 and nothing ever went wrong with it. Only basic maintainence. My power window motors were original and I know cause I bought it off the original owner and she gave me every receipt she had. Those motors never ever go bad. Ever. Gm should take a seminar given by Nissan on how to make a part that lasts. But...consider this!! my brother did a research paper on the policies of Gm and Honda. Claims Gm builds parts only to last x amount of time, hence selling lots of parts, while Honda believes if you make a product to last, you'll sell more cars. Maybe Gm knows how to make it last, but doesn't WANT TO!!!

So like Gm is basically saying...they can lead and pioneer the high hp ls and LT1 engines which last, but can't figure out how to make a window motor last more then a year? Yeah, ok. I got an oceanfront property in phoenix for a good price to any Gm executive.
