Default Power steering feels like almost none

I'm looking for a 97-02 Camaro and the 2002 z28 that I just drove has very heavy steering. The used car dealer says they're all like that. Are they, or is there a common seal failure that causes the difficult steering?
Do 1993 to 2002 all share the same steering set up? If so I can find another Camaro to try out.

No, failed seals are not common. The later Z28's have tighter racks then the earlier base models. To compare feel you want to drive a 98-2002.

the power steering pump relief valve can fail. the pump housing is part of the valve and if it gets worn it will make steering tough. it could have a manual rack conversion on it.

Default that helped

So if it's not a pump/valve problem, I can always swap in an earlier rack.
that's great, its fixable. I just bought the car, a 2002 36th Anniversary Z28.

It is not that simple. The links from the column to the rack are different. I am sure you can find someone to swap everything you need. To people that like performance handling car the 98-02 Z rack is considered an upgrade. I have seen far more posts of people complaining about the sloppy feel of the older racks. Again assuming its work right you are the first person I have heard that does not like the the tighter Z rack. I have owned both and going back to the looser rack would be tuff.

Maybe give it some time?

this is what i was talking about. https://www.detroitaxle.com/shop/ste...24189.95%20USD although you would not have a power steering pump if this was in it
