Default possibally buying a camaro

okay, so i was looking for v-8 mustang, but its too expensive to run and insure, I found a 1996 Camaro with a 3.8L this morning for 1500 that needs radiator, a/c, window motor, and tires. my girlfriend has the 98 firebird so we would match..kinda. question is what are the upsides to the car, hows gas mileage, is it worth it to fix and what are cheap easy mods that will improve prefomance, I was going to do a cam swap in the mustang being as the cams were over head, are the overhead in the 3.8 as well, and has anyone done it?

the ad says the motor and tranny have 50k on them and the body has 196k and the heads sound nice, and how much boost can you put in the motor without messing around with the bottom end
