Default Posi Drive Rear End '02 V6

Is it possible to mount a posi drive rear end from a SS or Z28 etc. on a '02 V6 Camaro? If so how much knowledge and time would it take to complete such a task, and would I really be gaining anything?

it depends on if u have traction control and if the rear end u want to put in has traction control. tc has two sensors, one on each axle, non tc has one sensor in the center section. other than that they should be the same. do u have drum brakes on the back of your car? do u have posi trac? those would be two things that would be an upgrade. the v8 rear ends have disc brakes and posi trac.

I have an '02 Camaro with all wheel disc brakes, but I'm not sure about a posi rear-end. That will be something I have to look into. Well I did some research and it appears the all wheel disc brakes came standard on the '02 Base Model so I'm highly doubting I have a posi drive rear end.

if u jack up the back so both wheels are off the ground and put the car in nutural. then turn one wheel, if the other wheel turns the same direction u have positrac. if the other wheel turns the oposite direction or the drive line turns and the other wheel doesnt then its a standard or open rear.

If it is standard or open rear will I lose gas mileage by upgrading to a positrac?

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm hoping to add a Z28 rear end to my '94 by the end of the summer. This would also give me a rear disc brake upgrade (currently have drums). Will I have to do anything to my brake lines and/or master cylinder to work with the discs, or can I just put the new rear end and brakes in and call it good?

if u get the brake lines to the center junction on and with the rearend then it should be a real simple hook up. i think both hose fitting are the same for the single hose that ties into the system from the rearend. i dont know if u can use the lines from drum to disk if u need to use the ones on the car.

FWIW - another "easier" way to confirm if you have a posi rear end is to look at the RPO codes on the door panel - if you find "G80" there, it should have a posi rear as stock.

So if the open rear has TC, and the replacement LSD rear does not, can the sensors from the one with TC be relatively easily transferred?
