It hasn't been a walk in the park, I'll tell you that! I've been taking my time, going out on Saturday morning and calling it a day in the mid afternoon so I still have some weekend time with the family. I'll be close to the 3 month mark when its back on the road. I think its worth it. I was faced with the choice of having a shop do it, or take the money I'd save by doing it myself and put it towards another vehicle. Seemed like an easy decision to me.

If I didn't happen to have the scratch to buy another vehicle, I'd probably have done it in a couple of weekends- ONLY replacing the converter and slapping it back together, wishing I had the time to replace the rear main and oil pump. Those two things took a LOT more work than they should have, seriously.

jkeaton, I'd run out and grab the pipes for you but that picture is a few days old and all of that is at some garbage yard out in the Mojave desert by now- sorry! I copy/pasted most of that post from a Jeep forum that I frequent. I realized I've been updating my Jeep buddies on the project without coming back to update the camaro community that offered me some advice.

I went out and bought that ratchet and wobble extension after reading your article for the 4th or 5th time. That ratchet has quickly become my favorite tool.

lol, i have two now, one on the boat as well. they have a nice easy rachet to them so when a plug/bolt is goin easy they go longer than them short hard racheting ones. and if you have room the handle can go straight out and the bolt spins right out.

I like how I can bend it to 90* and use it like a crank on a bolt that's already loose

Well.. yeah that's what I use my air ratchet, air impact, or drill with a 3/8 box adapter bit.... but when I'm already using the hand ratchet, I'll start using it as a crank when I can instead of reaching for the power/air tool and swapping sockets over.

BTW, air impact gun makes removing and reinstalling the torque bar super easy. I can't imagine dealing with those lock nuts with hand tools.

:Edit: for those who have a decent drill but no impact gun:
