Whoopsy-daisy! How did that get up there?
That long bar coming forward from the rearend it your torque arm.
And see that block that is hanging well below it, with the slot in it? That's where the end of the torque arm is supposed to be slipped into. Under torque, the nose (pinion) of the rearend wants to lift. The torque arm (when connected properly) prevents that from happening. Your arm also looks twisted, because it's supposed to be sitting vertically. What does it look like at the rearend, is it twisted or unbolted? And I would advise not driving the car like that, or the next thing you'll do is snap some u-joints off the driveshaft.

That's an aftermarket torque arm and mount setup, so you won't find it on yours.
On your car, the front part of that long bar (torque arm) which is bolted to the rearend, is supposed to slip through that mounting block that you see hanging below the tail of the trans. Right now, your torque arm is pushed way up towards the tunnel/floor, which is also why you're hearing a "banging" noise. You need to pull the torque arm back down, and reattach it to the mount either by removing the mount, or the torque arm from the rearend. But it also looks like the arm is twisted. Take a picture of where the arm mounts to the rearend, as well as a rear to front shot, and post it here too. I'm curious what the rest looks like.
BTW, if you change your picture link from having "IMG" to "img" on both ends of the link, then the pic will show up.

That first set of pictures really makes it look like the arm is way high and out of place. But it looks normal in the last set of pics. I hate how camera angles can play tricks on you! [:@]
Now it looks like the end of the arm (at the trans) is in the bracket, is it? If it is, then don't worry about it. Now looking at that other block, it looks like the exhaust system hanger "receiver" where a hook bracket from the exhaust would slide through. Sorry if I worried you before, but from the other pics, it just didn't look right.
However, you are getting a banging noise? Check your trans mount, by pushing or lightly jacking up the tail,to see if it may have separated.

Has anyone ever actually removed the arm from their car cause I thought it would be nice to take out for running exhaust, but I don't feel like tweaky any of my drivetrain. I did find out however that if you don't get the arm centered in the rubber of the mount and you let it rub on the metalit sure makes a nice vibration when you hit high speeds or rpms.

You can't leave the torque arm off the car for good. Without it,the pinion side (front)of the axle will twist and lift up, tearing up your driveshaft, u-joints,trailing arms, and anything else in its way. It's there for a reason.
