Red face Performance Chip...?

I'm always searching on ebay for new parts/accessories for my 94 camaro. I've come across quite a few different perfomance chips for cars and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. There seem to be no cons to getting a perfomance chip, but I'm unexperienced in this area and I'd appreciate if someone could fill me in on what they're all about. Also, if they are worth it, what brand is the best? Because I've seen a lot out there and I don't want to get one that is complete crap. Thanks.

Basically a waste of money. For the same cost you can get the PCM reprogrammed.

Most of the cheap "chips" you can purchase off of ebay are a resistor that modifies the MAF signal into the PCM. This tricks the PCM into running rich, which can give you a slight power increase at high RPM. The PCM is smart enough that it will realize that it's running rich, modify it's closed-loop fuel tables, and you'll have a $30 micro-heater.

Don't waste your money on these. I was thinking about getting a performance chip too, but it looks like these things don't do crap. I was readingabout it, and it looks like these things don't work at all

about the only chip reason I would consider a chip would be for a gear ratio change so your speedo reads right but if you send your pcm of to get reprogrammed they can reprogram for that as well. One of my buddies bought it the hypertech 3 chip for his camaro. he bought it mostly for the gear change but it did have a slight difference. Not $300 dollars worth though, you'd be better of saving that money and putting towards a set of headers. much better hp gain for your dollar

dont even waste money and chips or programmers as the others said your better off with a tune from pcmforless...that will give you some real gains were the chip most likely wont.
