I am planning on painting my salad shooter rims black. I am going to use Duplicolor paint and Duplicolor Wheel Clear Coat. I am well aware that I have to sand, buff, and clean thoroughly before I even start. My question is does anyone have any tricks to getting a good,even coat. Also, does anyone have any experience with this paint and/or painting rims with it?

 

Salad shooters look bad in any color! get some vette rims!

 

Go on craigslist and look for the other stock 5 spoke rims and paint those. Much better than salad shooters!

 

I have both stock sets. I like the salad shooters better. I am one of the few who actually like them I suppose.

 

TO get and even and nice coat you just need to go light and many. Light coats and many of them. Rattle cans are hard to get things done right and looking good but you can if you take your time. You should still see the silver under the black after the second or third coat. If not you are going too thick. Allow plenty of dry time between coats as well.

Be sure to go over the wheels with a good wax removing/degreasing prep solvent before you ever start sanding. Otherwise you'll just be grinding the oils, grease, wax, and dirt down into the existing surface, causing possible fish-eyes now, and poor paint adhesion problems later.

And don't paint to close, stay far away it'll take a lot more paint but it will come out way better

Man, you need to get out more. lol
They're called that because they resemble a cutting blade.
Maybe someone here can test the wheels to see just how well they can slice and dice a head of lettuce.

I used the duplicolor wheel paint on my center caps, and it seems to be kinda thick. You need to make the coats very very light or it won't look very good.
