Default Overheating / Heating Problem

So does anyone know what would cause my cars temp gauge to hover between the 1/2 and 3/4 marks and the make the heater not heat up. Just blows cold air.

V6, 3.4

Thanks

low coolant level in the radiator, plugged heater core, heater control not working but that would not effect the engine temp

Also could be a bad tstat or a plugged radiator.

I'm fighting the same problem with my sisters 01 grand prix 3.1L (same engine just a different stroke) so far I've replaced the tstat water pump and lower intake gaskets. Next is a new radiator.

i just recently replaced my radiator (2nd time but both were "used"), i also replaced my timing cover gasket, my water pump and my thermostat. I know that my temp guage is kinda not working right, but that doesn't explain the heat problem.

if you have no air dam the temp will stay high

about heat, grab the hose going into the heater core, is it hot? If so then you have hot water going to the core so the core is probably plugged and that hot water isn't flowing through it. Think of it as nothing more than a forced hot water heating system in your home.

Sometimes we over-complicate things.
