Overheating ?

Just bought a 1993 M6 Z28 and it seems to be running a little hot. Heat takes a long time to come on and when it does its lukewarm at best. Temp will climb to right under red line, than one fan will come one and the temp will lower a little. this happens while driving and idle Once it starts getting hot, coolant light comes on. Is this too hot? I think im going to flush everything, does anyone know of a good writeup

Coolant level in resavour is at correct level btw. And how does that oil pressure look for idle?

That oil pressure looks okay to me. My car idles around 30psi and jumps up as my rmp's rise. You may need to bleed your coolant system. I believe your car has a bleeder valve somewhere. One of the z28 owners will chime in and let you know pretty quick I'm sure.

I opened both bleeder valves and just coolant came out.

That mark where the needle is, is just a tad over 200 (almost 210), you're fine.
For reference, the center mark on the gauge is 180 degrees (260+100=360/2 = 180). And each notch is in increments of 20 degrees.

Okay cool. I was going to do a full flush but I think i will start with just the heater core. only one of the hoses is getting hot, im suspecting a blockage

Chaotic94 04-23-2012 01:24 PM

^definitely have a blockage.

For reference, the low speed fan kicks on at 226 and the high speed at 235. The car should yoyo between 210 and 230 when idling + stationary.

93 all fans come on at once, on if ac is on and on at 230 i think. look at 12 through 16 here 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids have mine tuned for a 180 setup, with tune i think the fans come on at 200. unless its 80 or 90 degrees out both my 93s are/where between the second mark and the center mark even before the tune. if its really hot then it has gotten to the third mark. i got really nervous. test your temp sensors, temp gage sensor i on the driver side head by the number one spark plug, temp sensor is on the front of the water pump. test ohms at number 20 on the same site i linked.
