Default Oil weight and brand! Texas weather

Alright well I always like to hear what other people use and im sure this has been over before but I came up with a lot of results and confused.
So its around 50-70F kinda weather usually rite now for the next month or so, and I was thinking of using a 5-30w oil or 5-40w oil and mostly the 5-40W because my lt-1 motor has 160K miles on it so it should be better for it rite?
Oh and mobil 1 is what oil I kept seeing recommended but I want a dino tpe oil, and need recommendations, thanks!

For that many miles don't settle for a conventional oil. Get a high mileage oil. Since you see mostly warm weather, I wouldn't be afraid to stick 10W-40 (what I run year round, winters included) or even 15W-40. 5W-40 will work just as good though.

Castrol, Pennzoil, Mobil 1, RP, Amzoil are all good brands. You can't go wrong with any of them.

FYI, I run Pennzoil HM 10W-40 in my Camaro with 125k and Castrol HM 10W-40 in my Jeep that has 250k and both have seen 0 degree winters and 40 psi or better at idle warmed up.

Yea Pennzoil is one brand I wont mess with, i forget but I think they have paraffin wax or something that gets all in your motor or something like that lol.
So isn't a 5-40 better then 10-40 as it reduces the wear on a cold start and their both still 40 weight oils at temp, so Im gonna just use 5w-40 mobil 1 or maybe Castrol gtx dino oil..... sound like a good choice to you guys or ???
Oh and whats a high mileage oil really even do...sounds like a scam like ultra white ice cream or some crap lol

^See my write up for a full explanation.

As far as Pennzoil having wax in it, IF they did, it was years and years ago (like '80s). All oils are required to meet the same specifications for their class, conventional, high mileage, synthetic blend, full synthetic. This doesn't meet though that some brands can't exceed those specs. All of the one's I previously mentioned exceed those specs.

High mileage includes an extra additive package to help swell seals and prevent and/or stop minor leaks.

Which brings us back to what oil is best. Any oil will do, really. Yes, some oils are better, but there is no best. It breaks down to personal preference. I use Pennzoil and Castrol and trust them both. But I also wouldn't hesitate for one second to put Mobil 1 or Amzoil or Royal Purple in if I could really afford them.

I use nothing but Mobil 1 full synthetic. GM believed in it so much, they delivered the LT1 Vette's off the assembly line with Mobil 1 in the oil pan, and recommended it's continued use.
Don't know why you want to steer away from synthetic. Dino oil's viscosity breakdown starts right away, synthetic doesn't breakdown nearly that soon.
And since you can go twice as long between oil changes with synthetic over conventional, and with Mobil 1 costing only about 50% more than conventional oil, using synthetic costs you less money and time, not more.

Ok well I ended up buying Castrol gtx high mileage oil, it is semi-synthetic and was on sale from $30 to $15 for a 5quart bottle, and I got a mobile 1 filter. Anyways the oil is going to be changed out within a 1000miles for amsoil synthetic oil but I didn't wanna mess with the possibility of any seals leaking this week that's why I didn't go full synthetic yet

But yea basically Castrol gtx should be a good oil for only 700-1000 miles rite?

Well, synthetic blend is better than no syn at all. Btw, I don't know where you buy your oil, but here at Walmart, regular price for Mobil 1 is $25.17 for a 5 qt bottle.
It was $22 last year, those dirty oil bastids!
No comment on the "synthetic oil causes leaks" myth!

I'd just run it for it's full mileage. It's already in there, why spend time and money to replace it so soon?

Just a little food for thought with my experience. My 3.4 has 236,000+ miles on it, I run Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic and warmed up at idle I have ~25 psi. I like being able to run the synthetic oil longer, I'm working on extending my drain intervals now with sending my oil off for analysis, I'm up to 8,000 intervals now with about 1/4 quart make up oil during that time. Yes it's the original motor.

I like Mobil but any major brand will do the job.
