Default OBD Question

About a week ago my Service Engine Soon light came on. Unfortunatley I have a 95 Camaro with and OBD 2 port but and OBD 1 system in my car. Does anyone know how to use and OBD 1 scan tool to check to see what code(s) were thrown. I'm assuming it's just a matter of jumping certain pins to get it to work but i don't know which ones. Thank you very much for your help.

Very easy, just get a 94 & 95 Camaro. That is how GM built them, just to be a PIA. You will need a special cable for a OBDI scanner to a OBDII diagnostic connector. Check with your scantool manufacturer.

I checked with the manufacture, they dont have anything that will work. Do you know of a manufacture who sells one of the OBD 1 to OBD 2 adapter cables.

You may have to turn towards higher end manufacturers. I'm sure Snap On would offer something in the like. I'm not too sure there's any pins that can be jumped to display codes. GM really stuck it to you. And yes, GM was notorious for equipping 1994 and 1995 model vehicles with OBDII connectors, as companies had to prepare for the upcoming switch. GM must have had quite a surplus!

Just remember, ANYTHING with an OBDII connector CANNOT be checked without some sort of scan tool or code display tool. ALL GM OBDI connectors CAN be jumped, pins 4 and 5, to display trouble codes. I like Chrysler's idea the best, and that involved a few key cycles and before your very eyes, trouble codes were flashing (even post-1996).
