Not crank, everything dead

94 Camaro Z28, Auto. 80,000 miles. Good battery 12.4 volts. Will not start, will click when turning ign key then everything goes out, no dash lights no interior lights. Wait 1 min and nothing, no click. Wait 5 minutes and get interior lights and dash lights but will get the click but then nothing works all lights go out again.
Thanks for help.

Sounds like a bad battery connection, check your terminals for crud, bet it starts up with a jump. It should be about 14 volts running if the alternator is working right. Pretty common problem,I've seen many people buy a new battery when all they needed was a good terminal cleaning or possibly new cables. Could be other things too like a bad starter, first thing I'd do is put jumpers to it and see if it starts if cleaning up and making sure the cables are clean and tight do not resolve the problem.

yep, clean cable ends and battery terminals. i have had to scrape them with sharp knife before to get a hard coating of stuff off. carbon i think.

Make sure the cable on the starter end is tight too, I've seen just a loose positive on the starter do this.
Baking soda and water mixed to a thick cream consistency applied to the battery and cable terminals for a few minutes and rinsed off with water does wonders, then a good scrubbing with a wire brush till they shine.

lose wire at the starter should not make everything go off.

Thanks

Thanks for the ideas, I cleaned and ran sandpaper over all the electrical ends including the electrical wires and contacts on the inner fender. Then I removed the cut off switch from the neg battery side and everything works. I think the battery cut off switch was bad. Again thanks for your help, I am glad it was not a relay or sensor.
