i was doing the brakes on my girlfriends car (98 v6) and i noticed some noise from the front wheel bearings. there is no play radially, axially, or in and out. i did notice that if i changed the direction i was spinning it, there was a pause in the noise before it would start again. is it possible its just dirt and junk inside the area for the abs sensor and its just running around the tone ring and making noise?

I thought that area you talk about is a sealed area. I just replaced a front hub assembly a few weeks back. I was getting a roaring sound that increased with the speed of the vehicle. I could feel the grinding or roughness in the hub assembly as I rotated it by hand. Mine was not loose at all, just noisy. Pricey little piece but easy repair.

I would not worry to much unless you can hear while driving. If you weave back and fourth and the noise get louder when the pressure is on that side then its time for a bearing.

i personally have never driven the car, and she hasn't noticed any noise. it cant be heard with the wheel and brakes on it, and there is no grinding or anything like that. i just wanted to make sure it wasn't something too abnormal.

Lol, probably never will either unless it's an extreme emergency...but no, there's no noises. I checked today while driving and turning. Didn't notice anything unusual.
