Default Newbie stereo question

So I finally got my z28 (94 m6 72,xxx) woo!

Anyways I know nothing about systems. It has a different HU installed and seems to be only playing out of the tweeters (sounds as if my ear buds on my ipod are cranked up really loud). I understand this is probably because the factory speakers up front are 1ohm not 4ohm.

So my question is this: Could I run to the store, pick up some 4ohm speakers for the front and just swap them out?

It's almost 1am but if info about the head unit would help I can get that tomorrow.

run your VIN through this site and find out if your car came with the Boze system.

www.compnine.com/vid.php

If it did then you will have to replace the factory speakers with some non amplified units that will work with your head unit. Also check the wiring behind the HU to make sure nothing is messed up there.

You can still power those speakers with your aftermarket hu but you will need to do an amp bypass.

you should be able to use the stock wires for the front so replacing the speakers should do the trick. i always look at crutchfield to see what fits and is compatable.

Do you plan on adding subs to the car as well?

It does have a bose system, I see sub labeled so =P.

Subs may be in the future (next summer maybe) but right now. I just want a radio that I can listen to without my ears bleeding.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I had done a search before posting and it appears it is always the same people when it comes to audio lol =)

Actually another question that isn't worth making a new thread for: The stock final drive is 3.42? I ask because the PO put 4.10's in it and I do a lot of highway driving so I was going to revert back, or maybe somewhere in between? Suggestions?

It is pretty much stock (msd to replace the opti, intake and cat back)

check your rpo codes, im gona say you had a 323. 342 would work good for you. 373 would also, i had about a 5 mpg difference between the 323 and 373 so from 411 to 342 you should gain 5mpg or more.
