Newbie needs help
I am looking for help as I am at a loss here, this morning around 730 the car alarm on my 96 Camaro Z28 went off for no apparent reason, attempted to disable the alarm by putting the key in the ignition and when turning it forward to start and kill the alarm it did nothing, gave the effect as if the battery was dead but battery is fine if the alarm is going off, tried multiple things to try and disable the alarm with no luck, had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop, after work figured id mess with it alittle and try to get it to start up and work but once the battery was connected again the alarm started to go off, again tried to do the key shutoff so the alarm would stop but no luck, again dead silence when turning the key all the way forward. I had contacted my local dealer and they stated it was possibly the key chip is shot but tried both keys and still doesnt work. Does anyone have an idea what it could be and what it would cost to fix if it comes down to being something needing repair ???
When the alarm is going off, you can't start the car without disarming it first. This is to prevent someone from stealing the car even after the alarm is going off. When the alarm goes off on my car (which it does a lot; never seen a more finicky alarm before), I just hit the unlock button on my key fob a couple times and it stops. I am also able to immediately start the car as well. I tried to turn my alarm off by putting the key in the ingnition and turning it, but had the same result as you.
haha if only there was a logical reason. My alarm likes to arm itself whenever it pleases it seems; it stays unlocked in my garage, yet multiple times the alarm goes off when i open the door. Do you have the owners manual for your car? You can adjust the alarm settings I believe, I remember looking at it in my manual a long time ago, but never followed through with making any changes.
