new rear

Took it in, the clutch was going bad. They got that replaced and before I took it in I also was hearing a strange noise when I had to get on the gas quick. They checked that after fixing the clutch and said the rearend is coming apart.
$1,400 putting in one from a junk yard.
I need some advice on this.
I bought the car 2 years ago and haven't done any upgrades to it, just what I got it as. The rearend has got to be a 4.56? 80mph I'm at like 2,400 RPM in 6th gear. It's too much for me now so will probably go with 4.10s.
I need to know though what's the liklihood of replacing with a junked car or have them do something different?
I don't race the car, just enjoy driving it.
$1,300 for new clutch + $1,400 for rearend + $600 for tires = ouch
If it means putting the car up in the garage and spending a couple weeks and installing one myself I'm up for the challenge as long as this isn't something that'll likely kill me if I get it wrong?

2400 RPM at 80 mph sounds like a 3.42 rear end to me, which cam stock in all m6 cars. The stock 10 bolt rear ends have never been known to be strong or durable. $1400 is a lot of money for another rear end that will probably crap out. What exactly is "coming apart" in your stock end? Seeing as you don't race the car or drive the car hard all the time, it might be best just to put new axle shafts and bearings in (if those are part of the issue) than to get a whole new 10 bolt. I would never buy another 10 bolt rear end to replace my junked 10 bolt; 12 bolt or Ford 9" will probably be around $2200 I believe.

Yeah, it's $2,300, but it's the best rear you basically can get for this car. And just in case you ever do want to pump up the power on it, you have a rear that can already handle it.
