I gotta a issue mabey one of you guys have had .. At wot around 5 grand it will start missing then clear up shortly after 5,200 ? Last night i started the car and it was missing badley sounded like running on 4 cyclinders .. so i shut it off and restarted it and it went away ? no engine lights nothing ? sound like a optispark going bad or what ?

 

Hmm, the car is backfiring alot? Opti usually goes with some other symptoms, like inability to start at times, or the car completely dies out while you are driving. You would have trouble getting the higher RPM's with a bad opti as well, but i dont believe you would have trouble at 5000 and then be clear at 5200. You can try and run codes for it, however, they do not always show up.

 

it is possible your opti is dieing,i dont agree with nessy though, ive never had an opti back fire good or bad but it is possible.When was the last time the plugs and wires were changed ? Those are most common thing to cause misfireing.But it sounds like youre havinga high resolution problem which can be caused by the opti.

 

just had msd wires and plugs put on last week .. As far as the missing its around 5 grand area but it has had trouble starting before now that i recall it wouldnt start then the engine light came on so i disconnected the battery for a bit and it ran fine after that.. every now and again i will get a small backfire when i step on the gas but then its fine ...so before i go tearing into it im have the code runb but i figured i aske theexperts first .. hence camaroforums thanks for your guys input !!! i thinks theoptisparks crappin out on me the car hasnt died while driving but somtimes in the am i will start it and it will shut off ?

 

yeah there really isnt a way to test the opti to see if its good or not, but id say you have a good chance it is with the issues you are having
