Default Need Some Advice

My son has a 96 Z-28 which recently overheated on him. To make
a long story short, he ran it until it quit just trying to get home.
This is the 2nd time in 6 months. Last time we had the heads re-surfaced, new gaskets and a valve job. This time he's out of money
and can't repair it. It only has about 83,000 miles on the car.
Should he part it out and junk the rest or try to sell as is?

Have you check it out? Is the motor seized or something? Blown head gaskets are not a sure thing since they are only 6 months old. Most aftermarket head gaskets are better then OEM gaskets. Don't get me wrong they could be blown you just don't know.

I would sell it as a whole before I parted it out, I would guess with those miles you would be looking at $1200-1600 in my area depending on what options and over all condition. unless its a 6 speed Where you at?

We are in Orange County, Southern California. The car has 6 speed stick.
He has exhaust coming out of the radiator. It isn't seized. It starts right up but shouldn't be drivn as is. As far as we know it needs about $2,000 work.

well as it sits, i'd say you could sell it for 1500-2000

being as its a 6 speed, you could probably get more out of it. the parts for a whole 6 speed swap generally go for about 1200 bucks. i'd hate to see you tear the car apart though

Around where I live I would expect to pay closer to $2200-2500 with the 6 speed as long as I thought the motor was fixable.

too bad you aren't in FL

if the body and interior were in good shape, i'm just about ready for my next project. But, it would depend on what it needs as to the offer.

Good luck but if you aren't familiar with doing work yourself, pay someone for an estimate so you can try and get a handle on the market value. I'd try to have you begging me just to take it away.
