need new t-56 tranny any advice?
the tranny i got now is shot...i cant go into 2nd over 3000 rpms and third and forth feel sloppy soooo im in the market for a new one. whats my best bet? id like to get this fixed for under 1500. ive seen some trannys online for sale for around that they just want u to send in ur current one cuz of a core charge or something. what im wondering is is it worth it to get one of these upgraded ones with the carbon fiber synchro rings and the steel forks or what? the car is stock for now but i dont plan on going over 600hp when i start modding it. whats the limit for the stock tranny and what are the advantages/disadvantages of the upgraded ones? like i know some of these racing clutches for example are more durable but i heard they make stop and go driving more difficult. is there anything like that with the upgraded tranny? o and on the subject of clutches is it worth it to throw in a new one while im in there? and if it is whats a good one and what are some prices?
I didn't have the $1500 to shell out at once so Ijust gotmy T-56 rebuilt.I bought a synchro and bearing set with some bronze shift pads and steel shift fork( they told me only a 3-4 steel shift fork exists???). I took the tranny to the shop so I can save as well. Oh, if you have q's on taking it apart and what not, I took it off and put it back on TWICE in the last 2 weeks so, PM me. Well,I ended uppaying about $1500 aftereverything at the endsince there was more things I needed.
I think the torque ratings on these tranny's is 450.Yes, replace your clutch, pilot bearing, and get your flywheel resurfaced!I did a stock replacement type clutch that'll hold just a little more than the actual stock.
They also told me that a stage 3 racing clutch would be jumpy and the clutch feel would be stiffer. I do too many city miles to go that way. Plus, although I do want to do the track thingI have yet to go in the 7 years I've owned my car!

I would like to know which year your camaro is. Because in 98 Tremec started making the T-56 in place of Borg-Warner. The T-56 can take a lot of abuse, I would get it rebuilt without any special synchros or anything. Your gears may not be too damaged to reuse, I know a guy who rebuilds t-56's for $900. But that is if you dont need a new main shaft or gears. The Clutch--on a stock setup I would replace it with a Spec clutch. I have desroyed clutches and the specs are good. If you opt for a 6 puck, it may feel a little jerky, the four puck will be much worse. If you go to the spec website it will give you all the specs for the clutches and you can choose the stage that will suit your needs.
