Need Help Quick
I'm sure this has been discussed many times on here but I have a question. Yes, I did search for answers on here first. How much would it cost to have engines swapped between a 94 Z28 and a 96 Z28? I will not be doing this myself. I'm going to take it to a shop somewhere and have them do it for me. This is all if I buy the 96. the 96 threw a rod so obviously needs a new engine. I believe the opti spark is different, but could I just use the opti from the 96? Also, I'm sure the cam is different, so would probably have to replace the 94 LT1 cam with the 96 LT1 cam. Any info you guys can give to me on this topic will help. Again, my main question is how much do you think a shop will charge to do this? Any other helpful tips will be appreciated also.

if you are keeping the 94 motor the 96 sensors will be needed. the opti is different on most so you will want to look the opti to make sure its got the crank sensor on the outside of the opti. yes the cam should be changed but is not absolutely necessary, you can use a no vented opti on it. if you have the crank sensor you will however have to change the front timing cover to accommodate the crank sensor. other than that i think your ok. i switched to the vented opti for mine so i switched the cam on my 93 to a 95 up style cam.

im not real sure, lol, im a fisherman. maybe one of the shop guys will come on and give some numbers. i would guess at somewhere between 1 and 2k. you should consider doing some things while the motor is out, have the injectors cleaned and flow tested, clean the crossover pipe that runs between the back of two heads, replace the rear main seal, soft plugs, and intake gaskets/reseal. if changing cam, head gaskets and have the heads looked at by a reputable shop. where you at?

I'm in Topeka, KS. I had considered getting some of that done while the engine is out. But for now, I'm just trying to get an estimate on simply switching them. Just so I can kind of figure out what I'm looking at here. The bad engine from the 96 doesn't need to be hooked up in the 94 or anything but I'd just like them to set it in there.

not so easy to drop a motor into one of these. there are alot of things that need to be hooked up as you install.
you can do it with a cherry picker floor jack, jackstands and some creative use of items. there are many how to's on pulling the motor.
