Default My new 94 Camaro

I picked up a 94 Z28 Camaro. It is a pretty nice car but needs some TLC. It has a laundry list of performance parts.

58mm throttle body
LT4 Hot cam
1.6 roller rockers
Long tube headers
CAI
Nitrous Outlet system
Sonnax stage 3 4l60
3000 stall converter
3.73 rear gears
and many others

Like I said this car needs some TLC. It runs rich. The idle is extremely poor and hunts all the time. Turning on the AC makes the car die. It has a large transmission leak.

I figured the first thing I would do would be an oil change and tune up. Several plug wires were rubbing on the PS pulley and cut down to the wire. That is an easy fix. While I was there I replaced the belt and tensioner.

Even with new plugs and wires it still idles like crap.

Had a large leak from the front bushing on my transmission pump. It would leak with moderate driving. If you floored it the front seal would spray ATF.

Pulled the transmission and what do you know. The front pump bushing is wiped out. The converter depth was shallow into the pump.

With a new pump the transmission was installed back in.

Nice job, its always more fun with the car hobby when things are moving forward

My 4L60E has a harsh 3-4 shift, but only occasionally, I need to look into that later, at the moment I'm stuck in solving my mystery surge so the car can get drivable

I don’t mind putting work into a vehicle but when you aren’t making progress it drives me nuts. I have a 90s Jeep for rock crawling and it’s always one step forward two steps back.

if the trans is not built to handle nos its not gonna last long, did you get any receipts for what has been done? do a compression test to make sure heads and gaskets is good. check evap system. look for any hoses for cracks or breaks.

The transmission is built. I don’t have receipts but talked to the shop that did most of the work on the car. This car had a lot of money put in it. The compression on the engine is great. It doesn’t have a EVAP system anymore.

The next thing was fixing the surging idle. While doing a datalog I noticed my IAC was pegged at 160 and BLM split was off. That is a pretty big clue.

I have an aftermarket 58mm throttle body. Not sure what brand it is. It looks like a BBK but doesn’t have the markings. I see the throttle body doesn’t have a bypass port like the stock throttle body. Drilled a 1/8” port like the stock one has.

After reinstalling my throttle body it now idles great. BLM splits are almost perfect. My IAC count while not perfect is about 50 at idle. I could probably go 1/16” bigger on the port but probably won’t mess with it.
