I like both engines, each has its good and bad points. The Ls1 makes more power out of the box, but just about any engine can be modifed to make as much power as you need as long as money is no object.

I agree with z28pete they are both good motors. I have a lt1 like you but no one ever really bashes me that has a ls1. Then again most of the ls1 camaro's are stock around here and mine isn't.

I had my Camaro in highschool and all the kids with hondas and BMWs and those Subaru Outbacks (kuz they couldnt afford WRXs or STDs.. I mean I..) Right after i got my Camaro one kid bought a 79 with like a braided chromed hose kit and a fancy chrome filter and thought he was faster than me and another kid bought a 72 that was gutted and primered and turned it into a project car.. well having his uncle build a double carb 383 or something like that was cool and all but he sold it because he couldnt afford paint, interior parts and he didnt want to find out why the clutch got burnt every time he drove it... Point of the story, except for the drug "dealers" and daddys little babies, no one could touch my old LT1.

You can take a 3.4 and make power out of it and you just have to spend lots of coinage lol. I like the LS1 just because I understand it more. The LT1 is a great motor though and definitely holds it's keep. I love my 3.8... It's got plenty of power... Granted it's no 350 horse beast... But it's tons of fun and gets good mileage... Not to mention it responds to mods in a most excellent fashion.

That guy telling you you're LT1 is hard to make power with is full of it. That's like saying all Chevy 350's are hard to make power with...ha, doubtful. The LS1 is a better designed motor and has more potential for the money (put into the motor), but like others have said: How fast can you afford to go?
