Default Low Voltage?

About 50 percent of the time when I start my car (usually after it sits overnight) all of the dash needles freak out (spin all the way to the top and then reset themselves) and my trip odometer goes back to zero. Other times it will start up as normal and the trip odometer will be where I left it from the last drive.

It did this all of the time. Then I installed my stereo (it is a big one) and it stopped doing it... So I thought maybe the battery connection was poor or a poor ground, as it fixed it after I installed the stereo. By the way, i do not think it is the Alternator, as the stereo runs perfect with no low voltage when the car is on and the lights never dim.

Lately is started doing it again, about two weeks ago, and it happens half of the time now... the longer the car sits the more likely it will happen.

Just looking on what this could mean and what I should look for.
