Default Low oil pressure

I finally got my SS here to Florida. My Dad & brother drove it cross country. Now when i'm at a light, the oil pressure needle is showing NO pressure. The check gauges light comes on. Is it the oil pump or by the grace of GOD it's the sending unit. Is this problem common in the LT1's? What kind of pita is it to do the oil pump?

TIA

Yes, check the oil first. If you get the check gauge light, the pressure gage is good, but the sending unit could be bad, so verify the pressure with a mechanical test gage. If the pressure is really bad, then you have several possibilities, oil pump is bad, oil filter is bad, or something is bad inernally, such as main or rod bearings. The oil pump is replaced basically the same way as any small block. Raise the engine enough to get the oil pan out, and then replace the pump.

Thanks for the replies guys. Oil is about a pint low. It's due for an oil change so this weekend it gets done.
