oh and there is a huge difference between a z28 and a SS, z28 has a LT1 while a SS has a LS1 with a T56 tranny
Ok that couldnt be more wrong.
The t-56 was an optional tranny, but was however only offered on the v8 cars.
Any Camaro 1998-2002 has the LS1, and could have either a 4L60E, T-5, or T-56.
Then all the Z-28's from 1993-1997 have the LT1, while 96 and 97 SS's have the LT4.
Wikipedia is actually a good source for random stuff like this, just go there.

Yeah you might want to brush up on your infogreencam97. You'll definitely get called out for every wrong thing you say because most people on this forum know what they're talking about.

And I second Zolius' point of looking for a z28 instead. The SS is nice if you can find a good deal on one, but you're MUCH more likely to find a better deal on a z28, and it's pretty much the same car. I suggest that once you have the money just keep an eye out and be patient. Waiting for a great deal always pays off.

every 4th gen v8 ive ever seen with a manual tranny is t56. I have never seen a 5M lt or ls.

All 93-97 v8s were lt1, except a very select few 30th special special edition anniversary SS's in 97.

Otherwise the powertrain between any given year's Z, SS, TA, or WS6 is identical

who told you that lie?? All Fbody V8's from Z28 or SS ws6 ...etc from 93-97 had an LT1...some an LT4

ALL Fbody V8's from 98-02 and Vettes of those same years all had LS1. And the LS1 made the SAME power in every vehicle (about 290-310 at the wheels). Its very easy to find out just look it up.

This is actually the first time on here or any board, that I have heard of a T-5available on any 4th gen V8 Fbody. Now a T-5 V6...yeah, But not an 8, I thought they were all T-56 M6's??? Since every time people ask on LS1tech, Camaroz28, here..etc "what do you have an auto or an M6"? NO one has ever said " I have an M5 V8" or asked "Do you have an M5, M6 or Auto V8"??

I have to look into this one.

Something sounds fishy, because I dont believe it was even a factory option.

Someone might have done a swap, but some of u guys urselves have given advice on the t5-t56 swap in the v6 section. Now think about it, if the t5 and t56 were interchangeable between the v8 wouldnt they HAVE to be with the v6 as well since the v6 already has a t5?

it wasnt a factory option, the guy i know said he special ordered it, as in, like he paid extra to have it installed...

why i asked a while back if a t56 can be fit onto a 3.8(cuz it sounds like they have same bolt pattern). obviously 6th would be to steep for a stock 3800, but if it had 4.10s, a 6th gear would do wonders.
